Deze grote foto-database is een ode aan één van de meest verfrissende muzikale happenings van de afgelopen eeuw in Nederland: De Nederbiet explosie!

Dankzij The Beatles en de daarop volgende invasie van Britse bands als The Rolling Stones, The Animals, The Who, Pretty Things, Yardbirds etc.. vond er een ware explosie plaats van bandjes in alle grote steden en tevens in de soms zeer kleine gehuchten kreeg de Biet de jeugd in zijn greep. Ontelbare bandjes schoten als paddestoelen uit de grond en jonge muzikanten zaten vaak in meerdere bands en de concurrentie was moordend. Het was alsof alle jeugd in die tijd deel uitmaakte van een bandje of enorm geobsedeerd was door de Bietmuziek.

Het doel van deze (totaal uit de hand gelopen) site is om te kijken hoe groot deze 60’s Nederbiet scene is geweest aan de hand van opgerakelde foto’s, strooi- en promokaarten van deze bandjes. Zoals het er nu uitziet, met meer dan 2000 van deze bands op de site, is er letterlijk een grote doos van Pandora open gegaan en het einde is echt nog lang niet in zicht..............

This large foto database is an ode to one the most refreshing exciting things from our last century which happened in The Netherlands: The Dutch 60’s Beat Explosion!

It all began with the invasion of The Beatles followed by many other bands like The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Animals, Pretty Things, Yardbirds etc. Teenagers started to form beatgroups not only in big cities but also in small villages. It was a widely spread virus and it seems that a lot of youngsters were in a band or they were obsessed with the beatmusic.

This (totally out of control) database is the top of what seems to be a GIANT iceberg (or is it Pandora’s Box?) of thousands of Dutch Beatgroups. Right NOW with more than 2000 bands on it and I’m not sure if it ever will be complete.
